So often a look of confusion crosses the face of those who I meet not knowing what Social Entrepreneurship/Impact Entrepreneurship is!
Social entrepreneurship is the process of pursuing suitable solutions to social problems. More specifically, we social entrepreneurs adopt a mission to create and sustain social value. We pursue opportunities to serve this mission, while continuously adapting, learning & drawing upon appropriate thinking in both the business and nonprofit worlds and operate in all kinds of organizations: large and small; new and old; religious and secular; nonprofit, for-profit, and hybrid.
But why Social Entrepreneurship?
Just as entrepreneurs change the face of business, we social entrepreneurs act as the change agents for society, seizing opportunities others miss and improving systems, inventing new approaches, and creating solutions to change society for the better. While a business entrepreneur might create entirely new industries, a social entrepreneur comes up with new solutions to social problems and then implements them on a large scale.
One of my life’s missions consists of educating people around this particular topic. I’ve lectured about it, written about it and discuss it often through my various social media channels.
Please spread the word 🙂
Next post, I’ll play with the Impact entrepreneurship concept.
